If you are in Hue, you cannot miss the royal tomb in the suburb. There were 3 tombs and one temple around the area. We hired a driver to take us to two of the tombs on our way from Hoi An to Hue.
Khai Dinh Tomb
This is the tomb of the second last king of the Nguyen dynasty. He is very close to France so he imported many things from France which you can also see when you visit.
Hue is the biggest city in central Vietnam. The river of Song Huong separates the city into North and South part. You can easily see the big flag platform just beside the river to show the power of the country.
The north part is where the royal palace locates. Below is the entrance of the palace. This was the palace of the last dynasty in Vietnam and the home of the last emperor. It takes around half day to walk around all the places.
40 km away from Hoi An sits “My Son”, also known as the little Angkor Wat. This is Vietnam’s 5th world heritage and is one of the most famous spots in central area. These temples are constructed by the kings of Champa during 4th to 13th century AD. The emperor of Champa was once ruling central Vietnam for a long time. After the kingdom moved to other places during the 15th century, My Son was then forgotten by the people. However, after US carpet bombing during Vietnam war, now only around 20 temples are better preserved.
The path is really far, fortunately they provide shuttle bus.
This is mainly the area we can visit. From group A to F.
There was a traditional dance performance in the spot when we arrived.
Finally I visited Vietnam and I am glad I chose the most beautiful city – Hoi An. Recently JetStar started the new direct flight from Singapore to Da Nang. From Da Nang to Hoi An by car is around 40 min. We stayed 3 days there and had a wonderful time!
Hoi An is a town in central Vietnam and it’s famous for its ancient and well-preserved buildings. It was one of the economic and trading centers and was selected as UNESCO heritage. There was once a lot of immigrants from Japan, China, the Netherlands and India thus you can see especially the big influence from Chinese culture. It is not allowed to drive cars inside the old town area, only bike and rickshaw, so it’s quiet and calm when you walk around the streets.
Unlike most tourist towns where you see many shops selling the same things. Here in Hoi An, a lot of shops are unique, and the qualities are quite good. The old town area has so many streets that it’s impossible to finish all of them.
One thing worth mentioning is that the place is invading by Koreans!! I think most tourists are Korean and I felt I am in Korea.. A lot of Korean groups love to hire richshaw drivers so the below is a normal scene everyday!
